THE MASTER PLANT TEACHER - HUACHUMA / SAN PEDRO

Known as Huachuma, or San Pedro, this ancient Andean cactus has been revered for over 4,000 years as a sacred plant teacher and healer. Originating in the high deserts and mountains of Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, San Pedro has long been used by curanderos for prayer, ceremony, and deep communion with nature and spirit. Often called abuelo - grandfather - this medicine is gentle yet profound, working slowly and wisely to open the heart, quiet the mind, and reveal the subtle threads that connect us to Earth, sky, and soul. Its traditional ceremonial use is rooted in reverence, preparation, and lineage, honoring the cactus as both a spiritual guide and a doctor of the flesh.

Huachuma is known for it’s opening the heart space. Particularly, it opens the heart chakra by helping us process blockages, barriers, and pain that we store in this part of our energetic bodies.

Those who journey with San Pedro often speak of this heart-opening insight, emotional healing, renewed creativity, and a felt sense of unity with all life. The experience can bring clarity, visions, and deep remembrance - of purpose, of belonging, of innate divinity - without force or frenzy, inviting instead a listening so deep it feels like prayer. It is also well known for the Womb and Sexual healing. San Pedro offers a joyful embodiment of our Goddess life force and the immense loving power of Mother Earth.

OUR SANCTUARY & ACCOMODATION

El Verde is a unique and tranquil sanctuary, nestled deep in the heart of the Sacred Valley, within the quiet Andean community of Hua ran. Surrounded by 360° panoramic mountain views, this land invites you to exhale, soften, and remember the rhythm of nature. Located approximately 90 minutes from Cusco, El Verde is perfectly positioned - close enough to explore ancient ruins, villages, and hidden gems of the Valley, yet far enough away to feel held in stillness and seclusion.

From your room, your gaze rests upon one of the most sacred mountains of the Andes: Pitu Siray, the feminine Apu, guardian of the land and a quiet presence throughout your stay. Footpaths wind gently through the village, inviting slow walks and moments of reflection, while longer trails lead to the Arin waterfall - an offering of movement, water, and renewal.

El Verde is intentionally intimate, with just four beautifully appointed rooms accommodating up to nine guests. This small scale allows for spaciousness, serenity, and peace, while also nurturing a sense of connection and shared presence. Each room offers stunning views, high-quality linens, comfortable beds, thoughtful décor, and a private bathroom with solar-heated hot water (with electric backup for clouded Valley days).

The bright, welcoming lounge area, wrapped on three sides by floor-to-ceiling windows, opens to ever-changing skies and mountains that inspire awe and quiet reverence. Flights go via Lima or Bogota Colombia to Cusco.

El Verde is an approximate one hour and twenty minute drive from Cusco. Depending on your

plans, we provide 1x minibus transportation from Cusco to the property on 10.05.26.

The weather In the Sacred Valley tends to be pretty spectacular - sunny, crisp days, with temperatures dropping in the evenings as the sun goes down. Bring warm layers, a rain coat, hiking shoes and sunscreen. The most beautiful wool clothing can be bought here so leave room in your suitcase for the best shopping!

The elevation at Hua ran is approximately 2950m/10000ft above sea level. You will find loads of coca tea leaves awaiting you upon your arrival which the locals have used to combat altitude sickness for thousands of years!

Emma Jane is a priestess of breath, flow and remembrance, devoted to the living rites of embodiment, devotion, and sacred return. Her work is an invitation into the temple of the body, where breath becomes prayer, movement becomes offering, and stillness opens the doorway to the unseen.

She walks the path of the water priestess, working intimately with the fluid intelligence of water to cleanse, heal, activate, and reprogram. Through ritual, sound, yoga, breath, and deep rest, she guides others into the emotional and intuitive realms, where memory softens, wisdom awakens, and transformation flows with grace.

Rooted in ancient lineages and earth-based traditions - Tantric, Vedic, Shamanic, and Celtic - Emma holds ceremonial space through cacao ritual, breathwork journeys, women’s circles, and oceanic initiations. Her gatherings are woven as living altars: immersive, sensual, devotional, and alive with music, prayer, and elemental magic.

For many years, Colombia has been one of her spiritual homes. She has travelled and led retreats near Santa Marta, in the powerful portal of Tayrona Park in the Sierra Nevada, where jungle, mountain, river, and sea converge. The mysticism, rhythm, and ancestral wisdom of the land are carried in her bones, shaping the ceremonial current of her work and her devotion to the divine feminine in all her watery forms.

The Sacred Valley in Peru has also been one of these spiritual homes. Spending time here over the years visiting a dear sister, she has sat with the medicine of Huachuma many times, healing deeply and finding joy, forgiveness and a radiant sense of aliveness.

Emma’s priestess path is one of deep listening, gentle power, and sacred service - guiding souls back to rest, to beauty, and to the ancient knowing that lives within the dna of the body.

  • I have the great privilege of practicing yoga with Emma regularly in the UK, and her classes are always full of such creativity, poetry and incredible heart. I knew that expanding my practice with Emma in the awe-inspiring land of Colombia would be a special experience. However, much more than that, I found building through the Mandalas over the course of the week under Emma's guidance - alongside some of the other learnings and experiences woven into the retreat - to be both physically and energetically transformative. This was a real opportunity to go deeper - into ourselves, into understanding, into connection with others - that I'm so very grateful to have had. Gitana del Mar is stunning; you could not imagine a more beautiful setting, a warmer welcome, or indeed better food! - everything was exquisite. The sheer joy of practicing in the most incredible Shala on the beach amongst this powerful, passionate community of women, is something I will treasure.
